Regina Wilson Biography

Regina Brown Wilson is a media entrepreneur and staunch advocate for African American-Wilson is a media entrepreneur and staunch advocate for African American-owned news outlets in California. As Executive Director of California Black Media (CBM) since 2012, she leads a network of over 30 print, digital, radio, and streaming platforms serving Black communities statewide.

Wilson’s work focuses on increasing the visibility and participation of Black-owned media in California’s media economy. Under her leadership, CBM has spearheaded public information campaigns on critical issues like COVID-19, voter engagement, and emergency preparedness, while syndicating thousands of news articles to partner publishers.

During the pandemic, Wilson coordinated a multi-million-dollar public service campaign with 35 Black churches to promote COVID-19 testing. She also partnered with California’s Secretary of State in 2021 to ensure diverse media inclusion in the gubernatorial recall election outreach.

Previously, Wilson held key roles in state government, including managing outreach for underrepresented communities at the State Board of Education and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Office of Planning and Research. She was also a commissioner for the 2020 Census Complete Count Committee, where she helped secure over $50 million for ethnic media outreach.

An advocate for independent and local journalism, Wilson co-convenes Black, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American publishers with Ethnic Media Services to strengthen their collective impact. She is a member of the African American Empowerment Council of California, Sacramento NAACP, and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Minority-Owned Small Business Task Force.

Wilson’s tireless dedication continues to elevate ethnic media, driving equity and opportunity in California’s media landscape.
